Tarot is a deck of cards used for divination – a tool for reflection, clarity, and spiritual insight. Tarot is often misunderstood as predicting the future, when actually it is about revealing the energy of your current path, the obstacles in your way, and the guidance available to help you move forward with grace and clarity.
Tarot works by shuffling and selecting cards for specific questions/themes and is interpreted through layered symbolism – colour, elements, numerology, characters, archetypes, emotions, and more. Every reader interprets the cards differently, weaving together traditional meanings with personal perspective, intuition, and the context of your inquiry.
Tarot dates back to 14th - 15th century Europe, where it began as a set of playing cards known as trionfi or tarocchi. Over time, it evolved into a spiritual and symbolic tool, influenced by Hermetic philosophy, the Kabbalah, astrology, and alchemy.
The Rider-Waite-Smith deck, created in 1909, is one of the most widely known decks today and helped shape the modern interpretation of the cards. Tarot has also been deeply woven into the evolution of witchcraft, mysticism, and feminine spirituality – transforming into a sacred form of self-inquiry, ritual, and divination for the modern seeker.
Tarot is a structured system of 78 cards – 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana – with traditional meanings that follow a journey from initiation to integration.
Oracle cards are more free flowing. They don’t follow a fixed system and can vary in theme, number, and guidance. Oracle cards include themed decks like; Angel, Animal, Archetype, Crystal etc.
Oracle cards are generally creative, direct, and great for pulling a quick message. Tarot cards offer more layered symbolism and storytelling. Both are powerful tools – it just depends what kind of depth or simplicity you’re craving.
If you’re starting out, I recommend oracle cards as an easeful entry into divination. Some of my favourites are:
– The Spirit Animal Oracle by Colette Baron-Reid
– Sacred Destiny Oracle by Denise Linn
– The Wild Unknown Archetypes Oracle by Kim Krans (for a more poetic and abstract approach)
For tarot, I work with:
– Motherpeace Tarot by Vicki Noble and Karen Vogel: a circular, feminine and shamanic deck that centres healing and intuition. This is my main deck that I exclusively use for all readings. I also highly recommend Vicki’s book, Motherpeace to accompany your readings and tarot study.
– The Rider-Waite Tarot: a classic for understanding the traditional hero’s journey structure and historical archetypes.
– The Light Seer’s Tarot by Chris-Anne: a beautiful, intuitive deck for beginners. This was my first deck that I originally studied and learnt tarot with.
When in doubt, choose the deck your heart is most drawn towards. Trust that each deck will resonate in different ways and reveal the messages that are meant for you.
An optional intake form is emailed to you prior to your reading for you to highlight any themes or specific questions for your reading. During in-person sessions, we will refine your reading focus over tea and chocolate. Online readings delivered via email are also available at a reduced rate.
I will pull three tarot cards, offering clarity and intuitive insight on your current path. For added depth, I will also draw two oracle cards to highlight your overall energy and underlying influences or blockages.
After the reading, you’ll receive a detailed Session Summary with the messages that came through. I may also offer personalised yoga, meditation, breathwork, or ritual suggestions to help you integrate and embody the guidance received.
Book a reading in times of transition, reflection, or emotional intensity. Tarot is especially helpful when you’re seeking direction, validation, or a nudge from the universe to dive into that exciting new path that’s been calling you.
Whether you're navigating a crossroads, calling in new energy, or simply curious about the unseen patterns shaping your life, readings can offer grounded insight and spiritual affirmation.
It’s a beautiful ritual for marking new chapters, affirming your path, or receiving guidance when things feel unclear.
"I have just had a Distance Tarot Reading with Iris and couldn’t recommend her enough. What came forward was profoundly resonating and I’m so grateful for this gift she has provided me at a time in my life that it’s very much needed. It has given me great comfort knowing I’m on the right path and to continue channeling my energy inward while embracing things in my life that make me feel the most grounded, bring me the most peace and allow my light to shine bright. Thank you so much Iris."
